By conceptualizing the definition of exploitation within a continuum, the meaning of exploitation in itself opens the definition to a branching spectrum in terms of oppression that is experienced. Wertheimer and Zwolinski (2015) entry on exploitation in the Stanford Encyclopaedia of Philosophy, explain this problem with the fact that exploitation itself is too broad of term and should be divided into two distinctions: mutually advantageous exploitation and harmful exploitation. Mutually advantageous exploitation is described as a mutual gain for both the exploited and exploiter during the transaction. From there, you can branch off into other sub elements on whether the exploitation was consensual, non-consensual, what benefit did the exploiter receive, and the effect of that benefit on the exploited.
