Exploitation is the manipulation and immoral utilization of a person who is vulnerable for the purpose of but financial, social, or political gain. The exploiter will always gain something, and the exploited individual will always lose. Exploitation includes the trading of a good or service that is astronomically different in value to the point of drastic unfairness.
Thinking about sexual exploitation on a continuum is essential to being proactive about the issue. It is important to consider all types of exploitation including sexual, political, economic, etc. People who are exploited are vulnerable, and it is the duty of the rest of society to protect their right and be their voice. Many people do not fully understand what exploitation is, and do not realize the extent to which it occurs even in their own county. It is vital that academics continue to discuss the root causes of exploitation. Continuing discussion on this topic will also create awareness and proceed with efforts to stop perpetrators of exploitation.
