Similarities:

  • Both heavily based on protection and have good intentions
  • Both recognize that children need not only education, protection and basic human needs, but also need to be loved and nurtured by willing parents

Differences:

  • UN Declaration on the Rights of the Child uses "he" whereas the UNCRC uses "he or she"
  • UNDRC places much more emphasis on the mother being the primary parent, where the UNCRC does not
  • Right to a nationality (UNDRC) vs. right to ACQUIRE a nationality (UNCRC) focuses more on the child's ability and understanding
  • UNCRC is much more comprehensive, much less vague, and elaborates more on points such as in the case of a disabled child
  • UNCRC elaborates more on the fact that the onus is on the State to implement these rights effectively

It is obvious that there have been great strides in order to help children achieve the most they can and to ensure that they are seen as an important part of the population.
