Children's rights & seeing children as not fully human

In the video Senator Pearson clearly highlights the importance of seeing every human being as having rights and that children should be seen as full members of society.  This often appears to be lacking in the field of education particularly in school settings where administrators and parents often do not inform or engage children in discussions about their rights perhaps still seeing children as not yet fully human. I do agree with Senator Pearson that this however can be changed and a rights respecting atmosphere can be nurtured by a leader (Principal or educator) who enables children to be actively involved in developing their codes of conduct and a respectful environment.  Children are capable, curious and competent. A rights respecting environment can be developed with children from a very young age. In preschool and elementary schools with the right leadership and support this critical foundation can be set and help develop a future of a "rights respecting" society.
