In 2004, the original document for A Canada Fit for Children was adopted by the Federal Government. The conditions that were put in place by this document were: adequate income for families with children; effective parenting within strong and cohesive families; supportive and inclusive communities. In 2015, Landon Pearson issued an up-to-date document which evaluated the effectiveness and relevance of the document from 2004. In 2015, Pearson illustrates how the original three conditions, although still perceived as important, have become more aspirational that effective. Pearson noted, in 2015, how the progress that was hoped to be seen since 2004 been minimal. Pearson also notes that the need for action has become even more problematic since 2004. Poverty and divorce rates continue to be a problem and the demographics of the country have changed drastically between 2004 and 2015. Immigration, self-identification, the incurrence of social media and electronics, and a rising population, require the government to take a second look at A Canada Fit for Children. These changes in such a short amount of time provide evidence that there needs to be action for the children of Canada. The interdisciplinary rise in knowledge of child development as well as the insurgence of children demanding a voice through an array of outlets are also highlighted in the 2015 document. Although the conditions put in place in 2004 for A Canada Fit for Children are still viable, the 2015 document takes into consideration the ineffectiveness of the previous document, the need for a more action-based approach, and the need for A Canada Fit for Children to be altered to meet the needs and rights of all children in todays age.
