Both the UNDRC and the UNCRC serve to protect children and focuses on the development of an individual, while ensuring the best interest of the child. However, the UNCRC provides more in-depth explanation of each aspect and article it covers. The UNCRC also specifically defines a child as an individual below the age of 18 while the UNDRC never explicitly defines a child. The UNCRC is divided into 3 parts and contains 54 articles regarding children’s rights, while the UNDRC only provides 10 principles. As well, the declaration has the mother of the child as the primary caregiver reflecting that time period in which mothers were seen as a child’s primary caregiver. The UNCRC and UNDRC have served their purpose however the UNCRC has been an improvement of the limitations from the UNDRC.
