I think that children’s participation rights matter because it allows their voice to be heard in settings where their voice would usually over-looked. This is because many adults do not think children are capable of understanding many topics that relate to them because they are too young.

 

Children’s participatory rights have to do with citizenship and democratic processes that are inclusive and empowering because as citizens, children have the right to lend a voice to conversations, especially when it’s about matters concerning them. Though they are still restricted by age in many ways when participating in politics in Canada (I.e., voting age) that is no reason for their opinions to be silenced.

 

The inclusion of children’s participation in the UNCRC implicates States Parties that have a ratified treaty because it keeps them accountable. By having all aspects of each article laid out so explicitly it requires these states to follow accordingly. Or at least makes it easier for others to notice when they do not.
