This module allows us to look at the definition of exploitation in a broader sense, and how it can stem from many different factors that may involve an individual lacking education or family, from being neglected or abused, and from living in poverty. These are a few examples that come to mind immediately when thinking of exploitation, however thinking of exploitation on a continuum is where we begin to learn of the different ways this definition branches out. WE understand that exploitation means being taken advantage of unfairly and then expand this context by thinking of those in power and how they use it. Those that are exploited can be working in the sex trade industry, working in "sweat-shop" labour, are being used in placebo trials, being forced to marry, or being pressured to sell their organs to provide for their family and themselves. Sexual exploitation can also be done socially or politically and for profit, such as promoting and distributing child pornography. Through knowing more information there is a better understanding of the term and giving others a way to become more involved in enforcing stronger laws to prevent these different types of exploitations from occurring.
