The 2004 report, A Canada Fit for Children, has outlined three key conditions that spur healthy child development: adequate income for families with children, effective parenting within strong and cohesive families, and supportive and inclusive communities. The four main goals were supporting families and strengthening communities, promoting healthy lives, protecting from harm, and promoting education and learning.

In the 2015 report, the three key conditions remained untouched. However an additional main goal was added on top of the four goals; improving the well-being of Aboriginal children and their families. I believe that what was originally covered in the 2004 report was quite extensive, yet also inclusive. But I also understand the reasoning behind including Aboriginal children and families due to the long colonial history of oppression within Canada that still persists even to this day. Native youth are one of the most disadvantaged children when it comes to poverty.
