  1. Why do you think that children's participation rights matter?

I believe children's participation rights matter because children indeed have a lot to say; their input can help better our society as a whole. This is due to the fact that they bring their own knowledge and experiences to the table. Adults can only do so much, and more often than not, they are motivated by their own agenda. Having children interacting with adults, and offering their own opinions can be advantageous as they have a different perspective on a lot of topics. This is all to say that the lives of children are going to be impacted by whatever decision is made by adults. It would only make sense to allow the children to have a voice as they are going to be dealing with whatever problem is in question. This underscores the importance of participation rights as, in the end, children are naturally active participants.

  2. How does the inclusion of children's participation in the UNCRC implicate States Parties that have ratified the treaty?

The inclusion of the children’s participation in the UNCRC holds the state responsible for fulfilling the rights of the child. Section 12 states that the child can express their views freely. The state would also have to take the input the children provide them with seriously.

 3. What do children's participation rights have to do with citizenship and democratic processes that are inclusive and empowering?

Children's participation rights have a lot to do with citizenship and the overall democratic process. The democratic process values the voices of all citizens equally, taking each into consideration. With that said, when children are allowed to participate with adults and knowing that they’re voice will be heard is a very empowering experience. It shows them that others in society truly do care about what they have to say.
