Developmental Psychology's "not fully human perspective"

After examining Landon Pearson's perspective on the importance of viewing children as fully human I came to reflect on the way I have been taught about children up until this point. After some thought I came to be very critical of developmental psychology and their "staged" approach. This structure of studying children implies that becoming a human is a process of stages. It implies that a child must complete these stages in order to become human. This mentality is seen throughout child studies as far back as Locke and Rousseau and the theories the presented with regards to children as human-becomings rather than human-beings. After this mpdule I now realize how problematic these ideals are especially when they come to be reflected in laws and policy regarding children's rights.
